In 1987 the Tour du Faso first took place in Burkina Faso. Up until now it is Africa’s biggest cycling race. Within ten stages, cyclists from Africa and Europe blitz across the arid deserts in a thrilling race.
Amid the clash of European perfectionism and African realities we follow European hobby adventurers and African local heroes in their passionate ambitions to make dreams come true.
Considered by some as a 'flawed' copy of the famous Tour de France, upon which it is based, there's no denying the rough around the edges allure of the race to competitive cyclists the world over - some parts of the course are mere sand tracks and cyclists must camp in open savanna during the race.
TOUR DU FASO takes the audience on a time travel back to pre-commercialised bicycle racing. Following the Tour du Faso, the extraordinary fighting spirit of the underdogs and the thrilling geography of the race they face are exposed in lush photography and some hilarious yet heartfelt anecdotes.
