Rules of the Game

Lolita hates to smile. Kévin doesn't know how to sell himself. Hamid doesn't like bosses. They are twenty. They have no qualifications. They are looking for work. Over six months, the coaches of an employment consultancy firm are going to teach them the attitudes and language required to get a job in today's market. Through this apprenticeship, the film reveals the absurdity of these new rules of the game.

'Rules of the Game' is a thoughtful, human and, at times, humorous exploration of how the disfranchised youth of today are forced to conform to norms they find hard to comprehend. Drawing from nearly 150 hours of footage, acclaimed husband-and-wife team Claudine Bories and Patrice Chagnard have crafted this film with confidence, skill and compassion. Most importantly, Rules of the Game illustrates how all its subjects are players on a bigger stage, caught in a system that is fundamentally flawed in the first place.
